OBLU SELECT Sangeli layout
OBLU SELECT Sangeli is spread out across two islands; the main island and One Banyan Island, the adult-only island, which are connected by the bridge of water villas.
Golf buggies travel up and down the bridge and between islands constantly, so you can just jump onboard one if you want to avoid walking.

Main island
The main island is where you will dock when you first arrive with the speedboat transfer. You will walk through the beautiful open reception, and be welcomed at OBLU SELECT Sangeli.
On the main island you will find the main pool and pool bar, The Courtyard (the main restaurant), the sunset bar, the water sports and excursion office, the shop and kids club.
As the main island is bigger, this is also where all the beach villas are located.

One Banyan island
One is the adult only island, where you will find the six honeymoon villas, the spa, a pool with bar and the specialty restaurants. It’s open to all adult guests, not just those who are staying in the honeymoon villas.
Children are allowed at One Banyan island only after sunset and only for meals at the specialty restaurants.
If you’re travelling to the Maldives during school holidays, having the option of an adult only island is great if you want to relax without the risk of screaming children disturbing your peace.

Room types
There are a variety of villa and room types for you to choose from at OBLU SELECT Sangeli.
Beach Villa
There are 39 beach villas located on the main island, all facing the lagoon of Sangeli island. The villas themselves are pretty big, 81 square metres, but including the outdoors areas like the veranda, they’re even bigger and become 270 square metres.
Tucked away into the greenery of the main island, the beach villas are tropical escapes, an atmosphere that will be even more reinforced by the tropical and traditional Maldivian architecture of the villa.
They have a party open-air bathroom with rain shower that look like they’re something out of a tropical design magazine. And obviously, the direct access to the beach is the highlight of these villas.

Beach Villa with Pool
These are very similar to the beach villas, and offer many of the same characteristics, like the partly open-air bathroom, tropical feeling and direct beach access, but with the added benefit of a private pool.
There are only fourteen of these villas, and they can sleep up to four people (2 adults + 2 children or 3 adults + 1 child).

Water Villa with Pool
This is the villa we stayed in for three nights, and it was magical to say the least. There are 26 of these villas in the resort, and they all face the lagoon side of the island.
The water villa bridge is curved, so depending on where along the bridge your villa is, you might even have a sunset view.
The villa is very spacious, almost 90 square metres (more than my London flat!) and has an 8 square metre infinity pool that overlooks the lagoon. It’s very likely that you’ll marine life like rays and sharks directly from your poo!
The bathroom is very spacious, with big windows in the shower and bathtub that overlook the sea, so that you can enjoy a scenic bath or shower!
It has a contemporary design with tropical highlights that will make you feel at home, and many comfortable spots where you can wind down and relax.

Water Villa
There are 45 Water Villas, located on the bridge that connects the main island to One Banyan island. Most of them face out towards the ocean, which means you get direct access to the house reef straight from your deck.
The interior layout and design is pretty much the same as the Water Villa with Pool, with the only difference that it doesn’t have a private pool on the outside deck.

Honeymoon Select Ocean Villa
Located on One Banyan Island, there are only 6 Honeymoon Select Ocean Villas. They’re the perfect romantic getaway for newly weds.
The room comes with a round bathtub and bed, a massive outdoors deck and infinity pool, and dedicated butler service. Being on the adult only island, you’re guaranteed a peaceful stay at every moment of the day.

The Restaurants & Bars
There are plenty of dining and drinking options to choose from at OBLU SELECT Sangeli.
The Courtyard
The Courtyard is the main restaurant at OBLU SELECT Sangeli, which offers a buffet breakfast from 7 to 10:30, lunch from 12:30 to 15, and dinner from 19 to 22.
It’s a buffet restaurant, but there are various live cooking stations and you can ask for dishes to be made on the spot for you. The Indian station, where they made fresh curry and naan bread, was one of my favourites!
There is also a barbecue station where you can get meat and fish cooked just the way you like it. And the dessert buffet has so much choice, I definitely had one too many desserts!

Just Wok
Located on ONE Banyan Island, this contemporary Pan Asian specialty restaurant is open for lunch from 12:30 to 14:30, and for dinner from 19 to 22:30. Here we had an incredible Asian meal.
The menu includes a combination and fusion of various Asian cuisines. For example we had some excellent steamed dumplings and dim sum for starters, followed by Kung Pao chicken and hot & sour soup.
It’s a fantastic restaurant, with a laid back vibe and delicious Pan Asian cuisine.

Just Grill
Just Grill is the second specialty restaurant at OBLU SELECT Sangeli, also located on ONE Banyan Island and with the same opening times as Just Wok.
As the name suggests, the restaurant focuses on grilled dishes. Here you can try a variety of fresh meat and fish grilled recipes, both international and local Maldivian.

The Sangs Pool Bar
The Sangs Pool Bar is the bar at the main pool on the main island. It’s open from sunrise to sunset, and serves snacks and drinks all throughout the day. If you fancy a cocktail and nibble between meals, this is where you’d go to enjoy it.
There is loads of seating all around the pool area, so you can enjoy a drink both on poolside or a more seated position.
This is also where Hedhikaa Hut happens every day from 4pm to 6pm. Hedhikaa Hut is a selection of traditional Maldivian snacks, included in the Serenity Plan, which you can just come to enjoy.

The Rock
Located in a shallow lagoon on the western end of the main island, The Rock is a sunset bar built on stilts. They have bean bags all around the wooden deck surrounding the bar, which creates the perfect chill sunset vibe.
It’s open at sunset, from 5PM to 7PM, and all the cocktails are as always, included in the Serenity Plan.
It’s a fantastic place to come at the end of the day to chill and enjoy the vibe while watching the sun go down over the Indian Ocean.

One Banyan Island Pool Bar
Located on One Banyan Island, the adult-only island, this bar is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some food and drinks without children.
They also have a wide lunch offering, from 1PM to 3PM of salads, pasta, burgers and sandwiches, so that you don’t even have to head back to the main island!

Other dining experiences
Besides all the amazing bars and restaurants, OBLU SELECT Sangeli also offers other unique dining experiences.
For example a private floating breakfast, which you can enjoy in your private pool if you’re staying in a Water Villa with Pool or Beach Villa with Pool.
You have to select what to eat from a menu beforehand, and it will then be delivered to your villa at an agreed upon time. They set this up in your pool and it’s a wonderful experience which makes for fantastic photo opportunities.
They also offer a floating afternoon tea. We didn’t get to experience this, but I imagine it’s a similar concept to the floating breakfast.
For special occasions they also offer private dinners on the beach, with a lovely set up surrounded by candles. If you’re looking for a truly romantic evening, this is it!

Tours available
Besides the house reef snorkel tour and sunset fishing tour, which are included in the Serenity Plan, the dive centre on the main island also offers a whole variety of excursions that you can pay for.
These include activities like diving, snorkelling, cruises and water sports. You can join a diving or snorkelling cruise that will take you to other islands to swim with nurse sharks, turtles, stingrays and so much more marine life.
The complimentary house reek snorkel tour is a fantastic introduction, but if you’re looking to spend even more time in the water discovering the Maldivian marine life, then these excursions are great.

So is a stay at OBLU SELECT Sangeli worth it?
Personally, I really think it is. If you’re looking for a luxury resort in the Maldives, OBLU SELECT Sangeli is truly beautiful and the staff are incredible at accommodating your every need.
Plus, the Serenity Plan includes so much that you don’t have to worry about getting slapped with an unexpected bill at the end of your stay.
It’s the perfect resort for a carefree vacation, where you can enjoy the comforts and beauties of the resort, as well as the stunning Maldivian beaches and marine life.

Final thoughts on staying at OBLU SELECT Sangeli in the Maldives
That’s a wrap on my OBLU SELECT Sangeli overview and review! I hope you found it useful in planning your stay to this incredible Maldives all inclusive resort.
We spent three nights here in June, and absolutely loved it. It was our favourite resort we stayed at during our Maldives trip.
The resort itself is stunning, and the staff are so attentive it really makes for a special stay.
Plus, it has one of the healthiest house reefs we’ve seen during our trip, so even if you don’t want to join an excursion, you’re guaranteed to spot plenty of marine life even just from your villa!
