Let’s start with the premise that I absolutely love Thailand. It’s amongst my favourite destinations in Southeast Asia, and one of those places that I always find myself going back to.

I’ve been to Thailand three times now, and every time I try to see a different part of the country. I simply love the variety; from beautiful temples to pristine beaches, from stunning natural landscapes to busy cities, Thailand has it all.

I also love the food in Thailand. I could kill for a good pad thai and mango sticky rice right now.

You get where I’m going with this. I love Thailand, and can highly recommend it to all travellers. Just read on to discover my favourite Thailand travel tips!

Quick travel facts about Thailand

Where is Thailand? Thailand is in Southeast Asia.

How to get there: You can find the cheapest flights to Thailand via SkyScanner. You can also travel to Thailand overland from neighbouring countries (Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia).

Currency: Thai Baht (THB) – see the latest exchange rate here.

Electrical plugs in Thailand: Types A, B & C – I recommend an international adapter so you can use it on multiple trips.

Capital city: Bangkok

Best time to visit: Generally speaking, the best time to visit Thailand is from November to April, during the dry season. However Thailand is a pretty big country, with different areas being affected by different monsoons.

The Southern islands around Phuket are best visited in winter (Nov-Apr) whilst the Northern islands around Koh Tao are best visited in summer (May-Oct).

Thailand has a tropical climate, characterised by hot and humid days, with strong and brief downpours. Click here to see weather averages per month in Thailand.

How to travel around Thailand: Thailand isn’t a particularly big country, but it’s very spread out. It’s also a very popular tourist destination, meaning there are great tourist services and infrastructures in place.

The best transport modes ultimately depend on how far you need to travel. For inland journeys you can find very comfortable buses or minivans, depending on your group size.

You can also find very cheap internal flights on SkyScanner for travel within Thailand. To reach the smaller Thai islands you will usually have to get the local ferries or with private tours.

Visa requirements: Most passport-holders can travel to Thailand and get a free visa on arrival, valid for 14 to 30 days depending on your nationality. Discover the regulations for your passport here.
