Greece is one of those countries which, despite being only a hop across the sea from Italy, I haven’t had the opportunity to explore as much as I would have liked to.

I have visited Greece multiple times, twice on Mediterranean cruises, and once on a Santorini and Ios island hopping trip, but there is still so much more to see!

Greece is a country with so much to offer. From its vast history to its stunning natural beauties, there is something for everyone.

Whether you want to discover the unique rock formations of Meteora, the temples of Athens, or the iconic white houses and beaches of Santorini, here you’ll find travel guides to help you plan your perfect Greece trip!

Quick travel facts about Greece

Where is Greece? Greece is in south eastern Europe, on the southern part of the Balkan Peninsula.

How to get there: You can find the cheapest flights to Greece via SkyScanner. You can also travel to Greece overland from neighbouring countries, or via ferry and cruise from other European countries.

Currency: Euro (EUR) – see the latest exchange rate here.

Electrical plugs in Greece: Types C&F (the ones you find throughout most of Europe) – I recommend an international adapter so you can use it on multiple trips.

Capital city: Athens

Best time to visit: Generally speaking, the best time to visit Greece is from early spring to late autumn. While Greece has a mild climate, and is considered a popular winter sun destination in Europe, the main winter months are a little too cold for most Greek destinations.

In terms of weather, summer is the best time to visit Greece. But it’s also the busiest, as that’s when literally everyone goes to Greece to fulfil their Mamma Mia Greek island fantasies.

If you can, I would recommend visiting in spring or autumn, when the weather is still good, but there aren’t as many tourist crowds.

How to travel around Greece: It depends on where in Greece you want to go. There are a number of national airports for longer flights, and many ferry routes that connect the islands.

Greece isn’t a particularly big country, but the islands are dotted all over the place, so you’ll need to consider ferry or flight times when planning your Greece itinerary. For the bigger islands, or mainland Greece, you can easily rent a car and road trip around.

Visa requirements: Greece is part of Schengen. Depending on your passport, you can either travel to Greece without limitations or for up to 90 days without a visa.
