Looking for the best places to stay in Zakynthos, Greece? You’ve come to the right place!

In this article I have outlined all of the best towns and areas to stay in Zante, what type of traveller they’re best suited for, what to expect, as well as some accommodation options for every budget.

Located in the Ionian Sea, just off the coast of mainland Greece, Zante isn’t a particularly big island, but each town and area has its own character and distinctive feel.

For example Laganas is often suggested as a great place to stay in Zante, but given that it’s a big party town, if you’re going on a relaxing couples getaway, you will probably want to stay elsewhere.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in, and discover the perfect place to stay in Zakynthos for you budget and trip mood!

Where to stay in Zakynthos at a glance

As I already mentioned, Zante isn’t a particularly big island, so if you’re looking to explore, regardless of where you’re staying on the island, you can still get around pretty easily.

For example, Navagio Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves, two of the best places to visit in Zakynthos, are located in the north of the island, just a 1-hour drive from the southern towns of Laganas and Keri.

As such, when choosing where to stay, you should focus more on the vibe of the town and the vibe of your trip. Are you a group of friends on a stag do? Or a family with young children?

Regardless of what type of traveller you are, your budget, or what mood you’re looking for, Zante has something to offer for everyone.

So before we dive into my hotel suggestions, here is a quick overview of the best towns to stay in Zakynthos, and who they’re best suited for.

Laganas – Where to stay in Zante for nightlife

Laganas is the unquestioned party capital of Zante, the ultimate “lads holiday” destination. It’s no wonder that this is the best area to stay in Zante for nightlife, especially in high season.

There’s not one, but two main party areas here: Kalamaki Road (the main street, formed of mainly bars and restaurants) and Laganas Road, aka “the strip”, which features bars and clubs galore.

Aside from the Brits on stag dos and hen parties, the gap year students and people partying, Laganas can be pretty nice. There are plenty of places to eat (and drink, obviously!), plus there’s a long beach here.

Laganas Beach is the ideal spot to recover from your nights out, or join some exciting tours like Zante boat tours to see sea turtles, or trying your hand at water sports like jet skis.

Here are some of the best places to stay in Laganas for every budget.

Psarou – Where to stay in Zakynthos for families

Psarou basically couldn’t be more different to Laganas. This is a very nice residential area where you’ll find lots of villas to stay in for fairly decent prices.

Overall, if you’re wondering “Where is the best place to stay in Zakynthos for families?” I’d say here!

It’s a quiet and relaxing small village, with nice beaches and plenty of restaurants dotted around the resort town. The main beach is long and sandy, with clear, shallow waters that make it ideal for paddling and lazing around.

Though it doesn’t have any facilities, it actually had a decade-long run of Blue Flag status until 2018.

Plus, Psarou is in a convenient location, close to many of the best beaches of the island like Agios Nikolaos, as well as being a short drive from Zakynthos International Airport.

Here are some of the best places to stay in Psarou for every budget.

Luxury – Atlantica Eleon Grand Resort: Though it’s set slightly away from the town of Psarou, who cares when it’s this luxurious?

Atlantica Eleon Grand Resort is without a doubt the best place to stay in Zante for some no-holds-barred luxury.

I’m talking multiple swimming pools (some have water slides!), basketball courts, three onsite bars, evening entertainment, a spa and a large buffet restaurant. The list goes on!

Keri – Where to stay in Zakynthos for a chill beach holiday

For a beach town on Zakynthos, Keri is very laid back. When I stayed here I thought it was still a bit touristy, but definitely not crowded.

So it’s perfect if you’re looking for the best area to stay in Zakynthos for a chill beach holiday (the beach here is really cute!).

There are no partygoers here, and the location of Keri means you won’t have to drive too much around the island. You can even take some pretty cool tours from here, namely to Turtle Island and Keri Caves.

I’d also say it’s a good idea to stay in Keri if you’ve been to Zante before, and you’re looking for a different side to the island with a slower pace of life.

Here are some of the best places to stay in Keri for every budget.

They feature a private bathroom, a kitchenette, a large comfy bed, and views of either the garden or the nearby hills.

Location-wise, you’ll find Stefanos Studios in walking distance of shops (including a nice bakery) and restaurants. There’s also the bonus of free parking if you were thinking of renting a car to get around!

Mid-range – Gerovasis Apartments Seaview: This is where we stayed, and I have to say I really liked my stay at Gerovasis Apartments Seaview.

The apartments inside are a little old, but they’re well-kept and classically decorated, making them feel like a home away from home. The outside terrace and garden is amazing, there’s a lovely sea view to admire every day.

I also loved the location: the property is situated close to the town but not actually inside it, meaning that my stay here was very quiet and chill.

Zakynthos Town – Where to stay in Zante for city life

Zakynthos (or Zante) Town is the main town on the island.

Because of this, it’s packed with places to stay, with a lot of affordable options that make it a good option for anybody travelling on a budget. It’s also pretty decent for transport links.

Then there are the other benefits of staying in a big town – that is, the huge choice of restaurants, bars and shops that you’ll find here.

It’s definitely the best area to stay in Zante if you’re looking for somewhere fun and buzzing to stay. And there are beaches! Here are the best places to stay in Zante Town for every budget.

Mid-range – Dali: One of the best things about Dali Hotel is its location. It’s practically in the heart of Zakynthos Town but doesn’t feel noisy or too busy, plus the beach is a short walk from here.

All rooms come with balconies with sea, garden or courtyard views. These make for great breakfast spots – what an awesome start to the day!

Argasi – Where to stay in Zante for couples

Argasi is another quiet, out-of-the-way place that’s perfect for a romantic getaway.

Located on the scenic eastern tip of the island, just south of Zakynthos Town, Argassi has a string of great beaches to its name: Dafni Beach, Gerakas and Banana Beach.

It isn’t just the natural surroundings that make Argassi a great place to stay in Zante for couples. It’s also got a good selection of couple-friendly hotels to make sure you have a memorable stay in this chill part of the island.

If you’re planning a romantic Zante trip, and don’t want to have to deal with drunk revellers or crying kids, Agassi is the place for you.

Here are some green hotel options in Argassi for every budget.

Budget – All In Krinas Apart-Hotel: One of my favourite things about this apart-hotel is the pool – not at all what you’d expect of a budget hotel in Zante.

It may not have multiple restaurants or bars, but you can enjoy a few dishes, drinks and coffee at the poolside eatery. Otherwise, it’s a short stroll into Argassi for all your wine and dining needs.

A lovely place to stay on a budget.

Mid-range – Xenos Kamara BeachXenos Kamara Beach is a great place to stay in Zante for couples. The choice of rooms here allows you to find a special place to call home for a week or two.

Then there are the amenities – the pool and its all-day pool bar, for one thing – which make it a fun place to unwind. And that’s without mentioning all the restaurants and bars just a 5-minute stroll away in Argassi.

Final thoughts on where to stay in Zante

There you have it, the ultimate guide on where to stay in Zakynthos Island, Greece! Have you been to Zante before? Where did you stay? Let me know in the comments below!

We moved around during our Zante trip, staying first in Keri and then in Psarou, and I have to say I enjoyed both areas. I wouldn’t have enjoyed a stay in Laganas, but that wasn’t the mood of my trip, if you’re looking for a party, that’s the place to be!

Despite being a small island, each town of Zante has a distinctive vibe, which I hope I properly conveyed in this article. I hope you found my Zante accommodation guide useful in deciding where to stay on the Greek Island of Zakynthos.

Zante might not be as famous as Santorini, with its iconic private pool villas and views, but it’s still an island of stunning natural beauty (for example Keri Caves) and a vast choice of accommodation for all budgets.

If you have any questions about choosing the best neighborhoods to stay in Zante, just let me know in the comments below!
