OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi Review – The BEST 4-Star Maldives All-Inclusive Resort!

If you’re looking for a fun and carefree all inclusive resort in the Maldives, look no further than OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi!

Located just 15 minutes away from Male by speedboat, this resort is a great option for families with children, as well as young couples and groups of friends.

Here you can live the classic Maldivian experience, with overwater villas and incredible marine life, while also enjoying lots of fun activities and tours.

In this article I have outlined everything you need to know about staying at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, including how to get there, what’s included in the Fushi Plan, different room types and more.

Where is OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi

OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi is located in the North Male Atoll, on the island of Ailafushi.

How to get to OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi

Getting to OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi is very easy, as it’s just a 15-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport in Male.

This will be organised for you directly by the resort, you just have to inform them of your exact arrival time and flight number.

OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi Layout

Most of the rooms and services of OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi are located on the main island of Ailafushi, with the exception of the overwater gym and underwater Only BLU underwater restaurant.

These are located on the bridge that connects Ailafushi to the neighbouring island of Lobigili, where the sister property OBLU SELECT Lobigili is located.

The Fushi Plan explained

All guests at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi will automatically be on the Fushi Plan, a very comprehensive all-inclusive plan, which covers the following.

Food & Drinks

The Fushi Plan covers all meals at Element X, the main buffet restaurant at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also covers snacks and drinks at X360, the main pool bar.

One of the great things about the Fushi Plan is that it also includes alcohol, which isn’t always a given with all-inclusive plans.

There are self-service wine dispensers and beer fridges at both Element X and X360. The beverages of your in-room minibar are also included, and replenished daily.

Activities

The Fushi Plan also includes a variety of activities, such as the complimentary use of non-motorised water sports equipment, like kayaks and SUPs.

There are also lots of daily group activities, like aqua gym in the morning or karaoke in evenings, as well as live music performances and a DJ every night at the X360 Bar.

Room types

There are a variety of rooms to choose from at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi.

Water Villa

If you’re looking for those iconic Maldivian overwater villas, look no further. There are 106 Water Villas, all accessed from a long wooden jetty.

The villas are shaped like a “dhoni”, a traditional Maldivian boat, which create a pretty unique and romantic hideaway. We stayed in a Water Villa and loved the experience.

Relaxing and tanning on the private deck of our villa, with direct access to the ocean was simply incredible. I also loved the design of the room and outdoor bathroom.

Beach Villa

Located right on the beach, the 66 Beach Villas are perfect if you want to wake up in the morning, walk a few steps and be right on the sun-soaked beach.

The Beach Villas sleep up to three people, and have spacious indoor and outdoors spaces, as well as beautiful Maldivian decor and an outdoors bathroom.

From the beach they seem partly hidden, tucked into the greenery of the island, to give guests more privacy. But just outside the door you have your private sun beds, where you can lounge and tan with privacy and a sea view.

Ocean View Room

If you want to experience the resort life, but at a more affordable price, the Ocean View Rooms are a great alternative to the villas.

There are 48 of these rooms and they’re located on the main island, tucked away in the greenery just a short walk away from the beach. 

Ocean View Family 2 Bedroom

These are perfect for bigger families, as they can sleep up to four people. They have direct beach access and interconnected bedrooms, so that parents and kids can have a little privacy.

There are 48 units, which really shows just how family friendly this resort is.

The Restaurants & Bars

There are various dining options to choose from at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi.

Element X

Starting with Element X, the main restaurant at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi. This is the buffet restaurant open from 7AM to 10AM for breakfast, from 12PM to 3PM for lunch, and 7PM to 10PM for dinner.

It’s a pretty big restaurant with various dining areas, so you can pick whether to sit inside or in the outdoors area with your feet in the sand.

The buffet has a very wide offering, with live cooking stations offering Western, Asian and International cuisines. There’s wine dispensers and beer fridges for those who want alcohol with their meal.

Only BLU

The dinner we had at Only BLU is probably the most extraordinary meal I’ve ever had. Only BLU is the largest under ocean restaurant in the Maldives.

It’s shaped like a horseshoe, which means that every table has a window view out into the ocean. As you dine you can enjoy the view over the lively marine life, we even saw a couple of sharks during our dinner!

The food itself was also exceptional. You can choose between meat, seafood, vegan or vegetarian menus, and they offer a variety of dishes, both Maldivian and international.

It’s open every day for lunch and dinner. Dining here isn’t included in the Fushi Plan and will incur an extra cost.

Copper Pot Food Truck

As the name suggests, the Copper Pot Food Truck is a casual food truck, which doesn’t compromise on comfort and taste. Here you can have the most amazing surf and turf grills.

You can watch the chefs prepare your dinner inside the food truck, as you enjoy the starry sky and island vibes. We had a delicious Surf and Turf dinner, with a perfectly cooked steak and tender lobster.

 Dinner at the Copper Pot Food Truck isn’t included in the Fushi Plan, and will incur an extra cost.

X360

This is the heart of OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, where all the fun starts. X360 is a multi-level pool bar, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Here you can enjoy unlimited spirits, beers and wine, as well as one cocktail a day, and daily snacks and pop corn.

This is also where fun evening activities take place, like the karaoke o traditional Maldivian shows. It’s the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the entertainment, while sipping on your complimentary drink.

Amenities & Services

A stay at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi isn’t just about sitting on the beach and tanning (although if that’s what you want to do, then you’re obviously free to do so!) There are plenty of activities and experiences for you to choose from.

Snorkelling & Diving

Starting with exploring the beautiful underwater world of the Maldives! There are lots of options for snorkelling and scuba diving at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi, for different levels and budgets.

With snorkelling you can just rent snorkel gear and fins from the dive shop, and independently explore the house reef. You can also join a house reef snorkel tour, or even head further out to other islands to snorkel with turtles and sharks.

We did the house reef snorkel tour and we saw so much marine life! They’re planting a lot of new corals, which is attracting loads of fish. During our snorkel we saw sharks, turtles and Nemo fishes.

There are also diving tours for all levels, both for new divers and experienced ones.

Cruises

There are a variety of cruises that you can do from OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side during our stay so we didn’t get to experience one.

But from sunset fishing to private full moon cruises, you’re guaranteed a unique and romantic boating experience.

Water sports

As I already mentioned, use of non-motorised water sports is included in the Fushi Plan. There are also motorised water sports that you can participate in, like jet-skiing.

Fitness

If water sports aren’t your thing, there are still a lot of fitness related activities you can enjoy. Like the beautiful overwater gym, located on the bridge between the islands of Ailafushi and Lobigili.

The gym is divided in two areas, a cardio area and a weights area. There are also lots of fun group activities, like Zumba, yoga and Aqua Aerobics.

Spa

After all these fun water sports, make sure to head to Elena Ayur Spa for a relaxing treatment. Tucked between the palm trees in the heart of the island, Elena Ayur Spa is a haven of relaxation.

They offer a wide variety of treatments, from Maldivian healing rituals to classic couples massages and beauty facials. After your treatment you can relax and indulge in the beautiful tropical gardens.

Entertainment at X360

X360 and its adjacent pool are the beating heart of the island, especially when it comes to entertainment. Here you will find something fun to check at any time of day and for all ages.

From morning Aqua Aerobics in the pool to Karaoke nights or Maldivian Cultural shows in the evening, make sure to pop by X360 to enjoy the best that OBLU XPERIENCE has to offer!

As well as some of those complimentary drinks and snacks!

The Kids Club

OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi is a very family and kids friendly resort, with lots of activities and infrastructure for children.

There are plenty of little details around the island, like a toboggan slide on the beach or giant chess sets outside Element X.

But the highlight for children is obviously the popular Kids Club. The Kids Club comes with a pool, a game arcade and even a dedicated food corner with kids friendly bites.

So is a stay at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi worth it?

Personally, I definitely think it is. Especially for families, young couples of groups of friends. It’s an all-inclusive 4-star resort, but it has a pretty carefree atmosphere, which makes it fun and not too serious.

It’s also great value for money, and very easy to get to from Male International Airport, which makes it very convenient after a long international flight.

The all-inclusive plan is great, especially for young travellers looking to party, as it includes also alcohol and your mini-bar service, so you don’t have to worry about unexpected bills at the end of your trip.

Personally we really enjoyed our stay at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi. It’s a great resort, with all the comforts of an all-inclusive resort, but with a very relaxed atmosphere.

It’s the kind of resort where you can travel to also with friends, and not feel out of place amongst couples on a honeymoon. With its group activities and fun vibe, you’re guaranteed plenty of entertainment.
