Best tours in Split: Discover Old Town

Many of the best Split tour options are the ones that explore the Old Town. After all, they will guide you to pretty much all the best places to see in Split.

The most popular attraction in Old Town Split is Diocletian’s Palace. Built in the 4th Century, this awe-inspiring palace was built for Roman Emperor Diocletian. It’s so large that it takes up about half of Split’s Old Town!

After you’ve explored Diocletian’s Palace and checked it off your Split bucket list, there’s so much more for you to see!

You can also take in the views from the top of Marjan Hill, check out the statue of Grgur Ninski, and visit Klis Fortress. The Old Town is also one of the best places to stay in Split.

Best day trips from Split

Explore Omis

During my 10 days in Croatia, I took a couple of day trips from Split, and the one to Omis was one of my favourites.

Omis is primarily known for its proximity to the beautiful and thrilling Cetina Canyon, but there’s so much more to this town than just this natural landmark.

Omis has incredible well preserved Old Town centre. Walking through these cobbled streets, lined with white exposed bricks and red roofs will feel like stepping back in time.

You can also visit the Mirabela Fortress and climb to the top to take in the views of the Cetina River, or suntan on one of the beautiful beaches.

Zipline in Cetina Canyon

As I briefly mentioned earlier, Omis’ most popular attraction is the Cetina Canyon and the accompanying Cetina River. While there are many fun activities to do at this natural wonder, ziplining is one of the most popular.

I actually went ziplining for the first time ever across the beautiful Cetina Canyon. And while I was a little scared at first, the views definitely made up for it.

This zipline experience includes 8 wires, for a total length of 2,100 metres. The longest wire is 700 metres long, and sits 150 metres above ground level.

I was pretty terrified zipping above Cetina River at that height, but the view over the river, the steep canyon rock faces and surrounding greenery is simply stunning.

In other words, I highly recommend ziplining at the Cetina Canyon. For the best experience, consider booking your Cetina River Zipline Experience in advance.

But ziplining certainly isn’t the only adventurous activity that you can do near the Cetina River.

You can go river rafting as well! During the calm patches, you can enjoy the stunning views, and during the speedy parts, you can get the thrill of your life!

It’s considered one of the best things to do in Croatia for adventure lovers, and it’s easy to see why!

Here are some popular Cetina River rafting tours.

Visit Trogir

Another popular Split day trip is to the lovely city of Trogir. One of the most popular things to do is simply enjoy the sunny beaches, including Pantan Beach, Medena Beach, and Okrug Marina Beach.

After all, since Trogir is situated on the Adriatic Sea, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the stunning blue water.

But the beaches certainly aren’t the only things that Trogir has to offer. You can also pop into the Trogir Cathedral, take a stroll on the promenade, and explore Kamerlengo Fort.

These are the most popular tours of Trogir.

Swim in the waterfalls of Krka National Park

Many of the most popular Split tours head to Krka National Park – and for good reason. It’s a must on any Split itinerary, and it’s easy to see why.

Home to sixteen stunning waterfalls and dozens of winding trails, this beautiful park is a natural masterpiece. You can even swim in these wonderful lakes and waterfalls!

We did a day tour from Split that drove us to Skradin, and we then got on a boat that took us to the actual waterfalls. It was great as it combined a boat tour with exploring this epic national park.

If you can, book an early morning tour. Being one of the most popular attractions in Croatia, it gets very busy.

And don’t limit yourself to the first waterfall, walk along the paths and explore the whole park, you won’t regret it!

Admire the waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park

Like Krka National Park, Plitvice Lakes National Park is a wonderland filled with dozens of cascading waterfalls! As a matter of fact, it’s home to the largest waterfall in Croatia, making it one of the coolest excursions from Split!

While at Plitvice Lakes National Park, you can explore the enchanting lakes by foot, tram, or boat. (But, unlike Krka National Park, you cannot swim at Plitvice Lakes National Park.)

It is important to note that Plitvice Lakes National Park is nearly a three-hour drive from Split, so be prepared for quite the journey! This is also why I recommend taking a Split tour, so you don’t have to worry about driving so much in one day.

Go on a boat trip to Hvar Island

If you’re looking for one of the best Split boat trips, the ones to Hvar Island are absolutely fantastic. This little island is known for its party scene.

Carpe Diem Bar, Pink Champagne Club, and Central Park Club are just a few noteworthy bars and clubs.

Of course, the nightlife doesn’t make an appearance until after the sun has set. But don’t worry! There are loads of things to do on Hvar Island during the day as well.

You can attend a service at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, take in the views from the Spanjola Fortress, and swim in the gorgeous waters of Dubovica Beach.

Five Islands & Blue Cave

While the trips to Hvar Island are awesome, the boat tours from Split to the Five Islands & the Blue Cave are nothing to balk at either. As a matter of fact, Hvar is just one of the Five Islands, so these tours boast much more to see.

These famous Five Islands include Biševo, Vis, Budikovac, Hell Islands (Pakleni otoci) and Hvar. They’re known for gorgeous beaches, picturesque fishing villages, and of course the gorgeous Blue Cave (which is on Biševo Island).

In other words, these Five Islands are some of the best Split tours around!

Final thoughts on the best Split day tours

There you have it, the ultimate compilation of epic day tours in Split! Have you done any of these Split tours before? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments below!

I joined a number of Split day tours during my Croatia trip, and they were amongst the highlights of the trip for me. They gave me the opportunity to see more of this gorgeous city, without having to worry about arranging things myself.

Some travellers also do day trips from Split to Dubrovnik, but I personally find this a bit tight. It’s worth planning a separate Dubrovnik itinerary, and taking your time with each city.

I want you to have the same amazing experience in Split, which is why I put together this guide to the best tours in Split. The tours I have listed are all the most popular and highly rated Split tours that you can find online.

I hope you find this Split tours guide useful in figuring out which tours are really worth doing, and planning an incredible trip to Split! If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below!
