Best tours in Split: Discover Old Town
Many of the best Split tour options are the ones that explore the Old Town. After all, they will guide you to pretty much all the best places to see in Split.
The most popular attraction in Old Town Split is Diocletian’s Palace. Built in the 4th Century, this awe-inspiring palace was built for Roman Emperor Diocletian. It’s so large that it takes up about half of Split’s Old Town!
After you’ve explored Diocletian’s Palace and checked it off your Split bucket list, there’s so much more for you to see! You can also take in the views from the top of Marjan Hill, check out the statue of Grgur Ninski, and visit Klis Fortress.
The Old Town is also one of the best places to stay in Split.
Here are some of the most popular Split Old Town tours.
Diocletian’s Palace Walking Tour – This walking tour with a local tour guide focuses specifically on Diocletian’s Palace. You can admire the architecture, learn about the history, and store up loads of fun facts about this Split landmark.
Split Walking Tour with Marjan Hill – In addition to seeing the famous Diocletian’s Palace, this 1.5-hour tour adds a couple more Split highlights to the itinerary. You can also watch the changing of the guard in Peristil Square, admire the views from the top of Marjan Hill, and pop by a noteworthy local jazz bar.
Split Old Town and Marjan Park Bike Tour – Want to explore the Old Town of Split but don’t want to walk for hours? You can opt to take this awesome three-hour bike tour instead!
Best day trips from Split
During my 10 days in Croatia, I took a couple of day trips from Split, and the one to Omis was one of my favourites.
Omis is primarily known for its proximity to the beautiful and thrilling Cetina Canyon, but there’s so much more to this town than just this natural landmark.
Omis has incredible well preserved Old Town centre. Walking through these cobbled streets, lined with white exposed bricks and red roofs will feel like stepping back in time.
You can also visit the Mirabela Fortress and climb to the top to take in the views of the Cetina River, or suntan on one of the beautiful beaches.
Here are some of the most popular tours that explore Omis.
Omis and Cetina River Day Trip from Split – As one of the most popular Viator Split tours, this experience has a lot to offer. Wander through the streets of Omis, trek to the top of the Mirabela Fortress, and sail along the Cetina River.
Omis City Tour and Local Cuisine Tasting – If you want a more food-focused Omis excursion, this one will not disappoint. In addition to seeing many town highlights, you’ll also get to dine on delicious traditional Croatian cuisine.
Via Ferrata Omis Tour – This unique tour of Omis is actually a beginner-friendly climbing experience that rewards you with breathtaking views of the town!
Zipline in Cetina Canyon
As I briefly mentioned earlier, Omis’ most popular attraction is the Cetina Canyon and the accompanying Cetina River. While there are many fun activities to do at this natural wonder, ziplining is one of the most popular.
I actually went ziplining for the first time ever across the beautiful Cetina Canyon. And while I was a little scared at first, the views definitely made up for it.
This zipline experience includes 8 wires, for a total length of 2,100 metres. The longest wire is 700 metres long, and sits 150 metres above ground level.
I was pretty terrified zipping above Cetina River at that height, but the view over the river, the steep canyon rock faces and surrounding greenery is simply stunning.
Go rafting in Cetina River
But ziplining certainly isn’t the only adventurous activity that you can do near the Cetina River.
You can go river rafting as well! During the calm patches, you can enjoy the stunning views, and during the speedy parts, you can get the thrill of your life!
It’s considered one of the best things to do in Croatia for adventure lovers, and it’s easy to see why!
Here are some popular Cetina River rafting tours.
Cetina River Rafting & Cliff Jumping Tour – Embark on a thrilling excursion, complete with nine kilometres of river rafting and a five-metre cliff jump!
Cetina River Rafting Adventure – If a nine-kilometre river rafting adventure isn’t enough for you, maybe this 12-kilometre one will be!
Another popular Split day trip is to the lovely city of Trogir. One of the most popular things to do is simply enjoy the sunny beaches, including Pantan Beach, Medena Beach, and Okrug Marina Beach.
After all, since Trogir is situated on the Adriatic Sea, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the stunning blue water.
But the beaches certainly aren’t the only things that Trogir has to offer. You can also pop into the Trogir Cathedral, take a stroll on the promenade, and explore Kamerlengo Fort.
These are the most popular tours of Trogir.
Trogir Private Walking Tour With A Professional Guide – This is one for the history lovers. Discover the charms of this historic town with a professional local guide sharing their knowledge with you.
Trogir & Blue Lagoon Half-Day Tour – This tour offers the best of both worlds. You can start your day exploring the historic day of Trogir and end it by snorkelling in the turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Historical Tour of Salona, Klis, and Trogir – If the history of Trogir isn’t enough for you, you can combine a tour of this interesting town with two other historic towns: Salona and Klis.
Swim in the waterfalls of Krka National Park
Many of the most popular Split tours head to Krka National Park – and for good reason.
Home to sixteen stunning waterfalls and dozens of winding trails, this beautiful park is a natural masterpiece. You can even swim in these wonderful lakes and waterfalls!
We did a day tour from Split that drove us to Skradin, and we then got on a boat that took us to the actual waterfalls. It was great as it combined a boat tour with exploring this epic national park.
If you can, book an early morning tour. Being one of the most popular attractions in Croatia, it gets very busy. And don’t limit yourself to the first waterfall, walk along the paths and explore the whole park, you won’t regret it!
To avoid worrying about transportation and ticketing, you can take one of the Krka National Park tours from Split listed below.
Krka National Park Day Trip with Boat Ride – This Split tour gives you the option to explore Krka National Park on your own or with a guide. As an added bonus, you’ll also get to take a boat along the Krka River to get there!
Krka National Park & Šibenik Trip – This tour is a two-for-one! In addition to visiting Krka National Park, you’ll also get to explore the picture-perfect town of Šibenik.
Krka National Park Tour & Wine Tasting – Last but not least, you can combine your trip to Krka National Park’s waterfalls with a visit to a wonderful local winery.
Admire the waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes National Park
Like Krka National Park, Plitvice Lakes National Park is a wonderland filled with dozens of cascading waterfalls! As a matter of fact, it’s home to the largest waterfall in Croatia, making it one of the coolest excursions from Split!
While at Plitvice Lakes National Park, you can explore the enchanting lakes by foot, tram, or boat. (But, unlike Krka National Park, you cannot swim at Plitvice Lakes National Park.)
It is important to note that Plitvice Lakes National Park is nearly a three-hour drive from Split, so be prepared for quite the journey! This is also why I recommend taking a Split tour, so you don’t have to worry about driving so much in one day.
These are some of the most popular trips to Plitvice Lakes from Split.
Plitvice Lakes Full-Day Trip – The first half of this experience includes a guided tour of Plitvice Lakes National Park, and the second half gives you some time to explore this spectacular park on your own.
Plitvice Lakes Private Tour – If you’d prefer to have a tour guide just for your group, this Plitvice Lakes Private Tour may be the ideal option for you.
Go on a boat trip to Hvar Island
If you’re looking for one of the best Split boat trips, the ones to Hvar Island are absolutely fantastic. This little island is known for its party scene.
Carpe Diem Bar, Pink Champagne Club, and Central Park Club are just a few noteworthy bars and clubs.
Of course, the nightlife doesn’t make an appearance until after the sun has set. But don’t worry! There are loads of things to do on Hvar Island during the day as well.
You can attend a service at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, take in the views from the Spanjola Fortress, and swim in the gorgeous waters of Dubovica Beach.
Join one of these popular Hvar Island tours!
Full-Day Catamaran Cruise to Hvar & Pakleni Islands – On this tour, you can take a lovely catamaran to the island of Hvar. Once there, you can explore the gems of the old town. Then, as an added bonus, you’ll get to visit the Pakleni Islands as well!
Blue Cave & Hvar Island Full-Day Trip by Speedboat – Rather than taking a catamaran to Hvar and the Pakleni Islands, you can take a thrilling speedboat instead!
Five Islands & Blue Cave
While the trips to Hvar Island are awesome, the boat tours from Split to the Five Islands & the Blue Cave are nothing to balk at either. As a matter of fact, Hvar is just one of the Five Islands, so these tours boast much more to see.
These famous Five Islands include Biševo, Vis, Budikovac, Hell Islands (Pakleni otoci) and Hvar. They’re known for gorgeous beaches, picturesque fishing villages, and of course the gorgeous Blue Cave (which is on Biševo Island).
In other words, these Five Islands are some of the best Split tours around!
These are some of the most popular Five Islands tours from Split!
Five Islands & Blue Cave Day Trip From Split – This Five Islands & Blue Cave excursion is undoubtedly one of the most popular Get Your Guide Split tours. With sailing, snorkelling, sightseeing, and more, you’ll easily stay entertained throughout the duration of the trip.
Blue Cave, Vis, and Pakleni Speed Boat Tour – If you want to spend more time at fewer islands, this thrilling speed boat tour includes three of the Five Islands.
Blue Cave, Vis, and Hvar Speed Boat Tour – Last but certainly not least, this Split tour is just a slight variation of the previous excursion. Instead of going to Pakleni, you’ll head to Hvar instead!
