Italy Travel Guides
Let’s start with the premise that I’m Italian, and in my (totally unbiased) opinion, Italy is the most beautiful country in the world. I’ve travelled a lot around Italy, but not as much as I would have liked to.
I’ve visited all the main tourist destinations in Italy like Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Rome and Venice, as well as some more off the beaten path spots like Sardinia. I love sharing on my blog photos of my Bel Paese.
In this section you will find all my top travel tips for Italy. From touristy to undiscovered spots, I attempt to show you the best of Italy, with some local Italian insider tips along the way.
Quick travel facts about Italy
Where is Italy? Italy is a Mediterranean country in southern Europe.
How to get there: You can find the cheapest flights to Italy via SkyScanner. You can also easily travel to Italy overland from neighbouring countries by car or train, as well as via ferry from other Mediterranean countries.
Currency: Euro (EUR) – see the latest exchange rate here.
Electrical plugs in Italy: Types C&F, the standard ones you get in most of Europe – I recommend an international adapter so you can use it on multiple trips.
Capital city: Rome
Best time to visit: The best time to visit Italy depends on what you’re looking for. Summer is the peak tourist season, but I personally find it too crowded, hot and expensive, since besides foreign tourists you will also find loads of Italians travelling in August.
If you still want warm temperatures and long days, then I would visit in spring or June at the latest. Italy is also a great autumn and winter destination, thanks to the mild temperatures in cities and great skiing opportunities in the Alps.
How to travel around Italy: For long distances you can find cheap internal flights on SkyScanner. If you’re heading to Sardinia or Sicily you can also get very cheap ferries from mainland Italy.
For shorter distances the easiest way to travel around Italy is to rent a car and go on a road trip, as it will give you the maximum freedom and flexibility. Italy has a good railway system, but with a bad reputation for delays and mishaps.
Visa requirements: Italy is part of Schengen. Depending on your passport you can either travel to Italy without limitations or for up to 90 days without a visa.
