What is Fiordo di Furore?
Fiordo di Furore is one of the coolest beaches on the Amalfi Coast. You’ll find this little jewel in the town of Furore, which is roughly halfway between Positano and Amalfi.
Furore itself is a nice little town with a handful of B&Bs and other accommodation options, plus a few hiking routes. But most people come here to visit the famous Fiordo di Furore.
Even though the Fiordo di Furore may be called a fjord by name, this natural gem is not an actual fjord. Fjords are created by glaciers, while this “fiordo” is a ria, which is a submerged river valley.
… But who cares when it’s this beautiful!
Set in a steep-sided little valley, complete with a picturesque bridge at one end, the beach down here couldn’t be more of an epic spot to chill for a few hours, enjoying the scenery, sunshine and a swim in the crystal-clear turquoise water.
It’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the best things to do in Positano, and why it features on so many people’s Italy bucket list.
How to Get to Fiordo di Furore
There are a few different ways you can get to the Furore Fjord in Italy, some of which are most certainly better than others.
Organised Tour or Private Driver
This is by far the most convenient way to get to Fiordo di Furore. To start with, you’ll be picked up, sometimes from a designated spot or maybe even from your accommodation.
Then the tour or driver will drop you off at Fiordo di Furore, and come pick you up again later.
A full-day tour of the Amalfi Coast like this one will often include a stop-off at Fiordo di Furore, which is a good option if you don’t have much time to spare.
It’s the most hassle-free way to plan your trip to the fiordo. There’s no need to worry about driving on the winding roads and finding parking, or having to navigate packed buses or work out bus timetables.

By Bus
For those looking at how to get to Fiordo di Furore by public transport, there’s the bus. You’ll find a bus stop at “La Locanda del Fiordo” — a hotel with a bar and restaurant, which is around a 5-minute walk from the fiordo.
The nearby bus stop makes the Fiordo easy to get to, but the main downside of using a bus to get to Fiordo di Furore is that there aren’t many buses, meaning that if you visit Italy in summer they get pretty packed.
By Scooter
It is possible to use a scooter to get to Amalfi’s Fiordo di Furore. A scooter definitely allows you more freedom than public transport.
There’s no official parking close to the Fiordo, but you can (and a lot of people do) park the scooter on the side of the road, out of the way.
Obviously, this is not an official parking space, and I’m not 100% sure if you could get fined for it in theory, but this is what we did and it was fine.
There’s very limited space available, so get there early or you won’t be able to park your scooter there.
By Car
The worst way — don’t do it! The Fiordo di Furore parking situation, as I mentioned above, is pretty much nonexistent, and there’s nowhere nearby where you’ll be able to realistically leave a car.
By Boat
There are a lot of Positano boat tours that include a stop at Furore Fiordo. While it’s a cool way to see it from a different perspective, it doesn’t really give you much time in the Fiordo.
When I visited in September 2023, boats weren’t allowed all the way into the fjord and you weren’t allowed to jump from the boat to swim — only look at the fjord from the boat.
With that in mind, it’s really not the most engaging way to visit the fiordo.
Of course, if you want to do an Amalfi Coast boat trip like this one anyway, and Fiordo di Furore is one of the stops you can check out go for it, but I wouldn’t join a boat tour just to see it.
I’d recommend visiting via land, as it’s a lot more impressive when you’re actually inside the fjord.
Once you arrive at the Fiordo di Furore from whatever method you’ve chosen to get there, you’ll then have to get down from the road to the beach below.
Note that there are quite a few steps to tackle to reach the beach itself.

Best Time to Visit Fiordo di Furore
Best Time of the Day
I would say around noon. We visited in the early morning to avoid the crowds, but the whole fjord was still in the shade so it was actually quite cold.
In the middle of the day, there will be more people, but then again the Fiordo will also be sunny so you can swim in the sea without it feeling too chilly.
Best Time of the Year
If you want to visit Furore Beach on the Amalfi Coast to make the most of its beachy credentials without having to share it with hordes of people, I’d say visit in late spring or early summer, and early autumn.
These times of year it’s warm enough to swim in the sea and lie out in the sun, but it’s also not peak summer when it’s full of people.
What is There to do at Fiordo di Furore
At the end of the day, it’s just a very scenic beach. What more do you need to do in such a lovely location than simply chill on the beach and swim in the sea?
There’s no infrastructure whatsoever, so definitely come prepared. I’m talking no sunbeds, no beach umbrellas, no bars or restaurants.
In high season (summer) there’s one guy selling water and snacks, and a few essential items, but otherwise, Fiordo di Furore beach is just that: a beach and nothing else, really.
Is Visiting Fiordo di Furore Worth It?
Yes. It’s very touristy, but it’s a super picturesque beach that you shouldn’t miss out on. Alongside our Capri boat tour and Pompeii day trip, it was one of the highlights of our Amalfi Coast itinerary.
Plus if you’re travelling between Amalfi and Positano, you can easily stop here as it’s on the way between the two destinations.
You can easily fit it into the Amalfi Coast section of your Italy itinerary without having to go out of your way to get there.
Where to stay to visit Fiordo di Furore
Deciding where to stay in Amalfi Coast can be tricky. There are so many cute towns, how do you pick one?
Personally, I always suggest either Amalfi or Positano, as you’ll be easily connected with ferries and buses. Fiordo di Furore is right between the two, so it’s perfect in that sense too.
Here are some great places to stay in Amalfi Coast for every budget.
Budget: Holidays Baia D’Amalfi – While the words “budget” and “Amalfi Coast” don’t often go together, this affordable hotel won’t wreck your Italy travel budget, and is located right by the harbour.

Do you Need Travel Insurance to Visit Fiordo di Furore?
After my personal experience spending two nights in a private hospital in Tenerife, and having to pay for it out of pocket (it wasn’t cheap), I always recommend getting travel insurance.
You might not end up needing it, but for a small fee you can travel without worries. Personally, I suggest getting your Italy travel insurance with Heymondo.
Heymondo offers tailor made travel insurance, providing the best value for money for your specific trip. You can also buy it once you’re already abroad and have forgotten about it before flying (which, if you’re anything like me, is quite likely).
Besides the usual cancellation, medical expenses, luggage coverage, and general travel insurance services, Heymondo also has a 24/7 doctor chat and instant assistance through their app.
As a Greta’s Travels reader, you get 5% off your Heymondo travel insurance!

What to Pack to Visit Fiordo di Furore
Besides your usual Italy packing list, there aren’t really any specific items I would say are essential to visit Fiordo di Furore. At the end of the day, it’s a beach, so just take with you the usual beach essentials.
I listed below some beach essentials plus other travel objects I always recommend, so you don’t have to go out and hunt for them once you’ve arrived in Italy.
Refillable water bottle – You can drink tap water in most places in Italy, so save money and plastic by refilling your own water bottle.
Sunblock / sunscreen – You could buy this in Italy, but rocking up on day one without having to buy overpriced suncream in Amalfi Coast is much better!
Fast drying towel – I like these because they dry quickly and don’t take up a lot of space in your backpack, perfect for a day of chilling at Fiordo di Furore beach, and then adventuring on to other Amalfi Coast sights.
Sunglasses – Protects your eyes from the sun’s UV rays.
Sturdy, comfortable shoes – There’s a lot of walking around to do in Amalfi Coast, and with uneven cobbled roads everywhere, you’ll want some comfortable, sturdy shoes.
International adapter – Depending on where you’re travelling from, you might need one of these to charge your electronics in Italy.
