Where to take photos of Marrakech, Morocco
Marrakech photos can range from desert landscapes to bustling market scenes, and just about anything in between.
This imperial city is easily one of the most beautiful places in Morocco. With your camera in hand, make your way to some of these incredibly Instagrammable locations in Marrakech.
Instagrammable Marrakech sights & attractions
There are many attractions in Marrakech worth visiting. Not only for the incredibly unique experience they provide, but for their picturesque setting too.
The majestic Bahia Palace is located in the centre of Marrakech and spans over two acres. There are more than 150 rooms to be explored, each with their own Moroccan-style charm. The photo opportunities are truly endless.
But the main photographic attraction is the Court of Honour. It’s patterned and punctuated by two water fountains that have become pretty iconic among the Instagram travel community.
Tip: Pack a few outfits as you’ll be able to get multiple completely different photos in this one location.
This epic Moroccan botanical garden was created with an artist’s touch. The beautiful garden covers an area of 2 and a half acres, accented by a Cuban villa.
The villa is bright blue in colour with yellow windows, making it a great backdrop to your Insta pics. The rest of the garden is just as photographable with its many cactus plants.
The souks are the bustling heart of Marrakech and the city’s main market. The stores sell everything from scarves and spices to glassware, but there’s no need to make a purchase to enjoy the lively atmosphere.
The colourful storefronts make for the perfect backdrop for your next post, brightening up your Instagram feed.
Some of the storefronts have become more famous than others (like the one pictured below close to the main square of Marrakech), but I personally think you should venture around the souk and find our own insta-spots.
That way you will have a unique Insta-shot (which is quite rare these days!) and you’ll have also gone on an epic adventure around the souk of Marrakech.
Palais El Badi
The El Badi Palace was once an incredibly luxurious palace adorned with imported materials. Today the gardens are the main attraction as not much of the original castle remains.
The gardens are built around a water feature and are dotted with orange trees. They’re surrounded by a high 16th-century wall, all of which makes a great backdrop for your travel photos in Marrakech.
Le Jardin Secret Garden
Le Jardin Secret Garden is located within the old town of Marrakech. Although it’s well signposted and relatively easy to find, because all the streets look similar, it can be tricky for guests to locate. Give yourself a little extra time to get there.
The garden is absolutely stunning with little water features and pavilions throughout, making for some great picture opportunities.
Koutoubia Mosque is located in the centre of old Medina and acts as the centre of attention in the area.
It has a 75-metre high tower that was built all the way back in the 12th century. This beautiful structure can act as the focal point of any photo.
If you want to get a great picture of the tower, don’t head directly to the mosque, but rather to Parc Lalla Hasana. This is where you’ll get the best views of the beautiful keystone arches decorating the tower.
Kasbah Cafe serves mainly Moroccan cuisine, with a few international dishes thrown into the mix. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner all year round, so feel free to visit anytime in between.
There is ground floor seating, first-floor seating, as well as a terrace. The terrace is where you really want to be to take in picturesque views of the Kasbah quarter, and the Saadian Tombs (located opposite the cafe).
These incredible views make for a great travel photo, so be sure to dress for the part when you head to the cafe.

Whether you’re looking to stay in a famous hotel in Marrakech, or a traditional riad, you should make sure every moment of your stay is picture-worthy. Here are some of the most Instagrammable hotels and riads in the city.
Riad Yasmine is not only a beautiful place to stay, but it has a stunning garden and outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees, making it a great photo location. The interior is very neat and modern, and they offer free WiFi and satellite TV.

Riad Be Marrakech
Riad BE is conveniently located a mere 800 metres from Djemaa El Fna square. Everything about this Riad is Instagrammable, from their interior decor to their room layout and even their outdoor seating area.
The Riad Star is a luxury option featuring a wellness spa as well as a terrace with stunning views over the rooftops of Marrakech.
Head to the terrace in the early evening to catch the sun setting over the city while enjoying a delicious meal. It will not only be a romantic experience but provide some perfect picture opportunities too.
If you’re in the mood to be lavished in luxury, then a stay at La Mamounia is right for you. The rooms provide you with stunning views of the gardens, Koutoubia Mosque, and the Atlas Mountains.
Their huge outdoor pool is perfect for photos and their vintage ice cream stand is one that’s sure to spice up your feed!
La Sultana Signature Hotel – Marrakech
Everything about this hotel is Instagrammable. From its many decorated archways, indoor plants, luxurious bedrooms, and outdoor pool to the dining area and breathtaking garden views.
If you’re looking to be pampered like a royal and receive first-class service, this luxurious hotel is the one for you.
The hammam is particularly photo-worthy, just be sure to take your camera along when there’s nobody else around. The inner riads are also a great photo location with their many indoor plants.
Hotel & Spa Dar Baraka & Karam
Located in central Marrakech, this riad has a stunning shaded terrace that provides views over the city roofs.
During your stay, be sure to relax in the hammam, receive a massage, and take part in traditional Moroccan cooking classes to enhance your experience.
There are plenty of rooms in the riad presenting perfect photo opportunities, but the rooftop terrace is an absolute must.
Morocco’s Instagram-worthy places beyond Marrakech
Of course, not all of the top sights Marrakech has to offer are located within the city limits. There are some fantastic photo opportunities just beyond Marrakech, which should definitely be added to your trip itinerary.
Located in the Agafay desert, the Scarabeo Camp is a luxury tented camp just a 45-minute drive from Marrakech.
The tents are incredibly spacious and comfortable, providing guests with a double bed, power outlets, a bathroom and shower, as well as old school travel equipment as decor.
There are three large communal tents where your breakfast and dinner will be served. And if the weather is good, expect to eat outside with stunning views of the seemingly unending desert sands.
The Moroccan tent camp and the beautiful decor that comes along with it provide plenty of photo opportunities.
The desert that completely engulfs the camp is equally as majestic, so be sure to take a camel ride from the camp to explore its splendour.
This wonderful site might not be in Marrakech, but just a short drive away it’s certainly worth spending a few nights here. You’re guaranteed a few epic desert photos for your Instagram feed.
Ait Ben Haddou
You may recognise it from the hit series Game of Thrones, but not even their camera angles and lighting can do this incredible place justice.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a fortified village acting as the perfect example of Moroccan clay architecture.
There are only five families left living in this kasbah, so it’s fairly abandoned and easy to explore. Be sure to visit the mosque, the fortified castle, the Muslim as well as the Jewish cemetery, and the public square.
There are sure to be endless Instagrammable moments at this former Kasbah located along the caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara Desert.
You can easily visit Ait Ben Haddou on a day trip from Marrakech.
